SEWARD, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan improved to 3-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play as the Prairie Wolves defeated Concordia University 8-1 in women's tennis action on Tuesday (Apr. 12) in Seward.
The Prairie Wolves are now 8-9 overall and 3-0 in GPAC play to sit alone in first place in the women's tennis league standings. NWU has not lost a GPAC regular season dual match since the 2014 spring season.
NWU took two out of three in dual play to get the match started.
Katherine Ternent and
Natalie Cech remained undefeated in conference play at No. 1 doubles as they won 8-1 in their match.
Bridget McKeegan and Tori Van De Veer were 8-3 winners at No. 2 doubles.
Concordia's lone win on the day came at No. 3 doubles where they edged
Alex Rieke and
Torey Kogel 9-8.
Ternent kept her streak of no conference losses alive with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Hailey Lemos at No. 1 singles. That started the ball rolling for the Prairie Wolves as they won all six singles matches. Cech was a 6-2, 6-2 victor over Annie Horn at No. 2 singles. Rieke was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 4 and Madison Hinshaw won 8-6 at No. 5 singles.
Two matches went three sets, but remained in favor of the Prairie Wolves. McKeegan won 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 at No. 3 singles and Bridges won 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 at No. 6 singles.
NWU will have one more conference match this week as they host Northwestern College on Saturday at 10 am.
