CRETE, Neb. - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team opened up Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Wednesday with a 6-3 victory over Doane College in Crete.
NWU improves to 6-9 overall and 1-0 in conference action to sit on top of the GPAC standings. Doane falls to 6-6 and 1-1 in league play.
The Prairie Wolves took a 2-1 advantage after doubles action.
Katherine Ternent and
Natalie Cech cruised to a 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles with
Alex Rieke and
Torey Kogel winning 8-4 at No. 3. At No. 2 doubles, Doane came away with a 9-8 (7-2) victory to salvage one win in doubles play.
NWU completed the victory by winning four of the six singles matches. Ternent won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Bridget McKeegan won 6-2, 6-3 as the No. 3 singles player, Kogel was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 4 and
Jaime Bridges won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
Doane won two singles matches as Ashley Zaeske defeated
Natalie Cech in a competitive match at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5. Cheyanna Kempel won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles over Rieke for the final win.
