Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – Grace University edged Nebraska Wesleyan 81-79 in overtime on Wednesday night in a non-conference men's basketball game for the Prairie Wolves.
Â
Trailing by three points with under two seconds to play, NWU senior
Trevor Leiting was fouled and put on the line for a pair of free throws. He made the first shot, then the Prairie Wolves called a timeout to setup a play to try and tie the game. Leiting missed the attempt on purpose and
Deion Wells-Ross controlled the rebound, but tapped the ball to the top of the key into the hands of a Grace player to seal the game.
Â
The Prairie Wolves were plagued by cold shooting the entire game as they shot a season-low 37.0 percent from the floor, including just 16% from 3-point land (4-25). NWU was 0-13 from 3-point range in the first half, yet still held a 36-30 lead.
Â
Coach Wellman's goals are to take 20 more shots than the opponents and that also happed as NWU finished the game with 81 total attempts, compared to 61 for the Royals. The Prairie Wolves pulled down 26 offensive rebounds and forced Grace into 23 turnovers, but the cold shooting ended up being a deciding factor in the game.
