OMAHA, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan scored a season-high 76 points shooting a season best 51.9 percent from the field as the Prairie Wolves went on the road and picked up a 76-68 non-conference victory at College of Saint Mary in women's basketball action Monday night (Dec. 5).
NWU snapped their two-game losing streak and gets back to above .500 with a 4-3 overall record, already equaling their win total from one year ago. The Flames drop to 2-8 on the season as they have lost eight straight games. It marks the second straight year that NWU has gone on the road and knocked off College of Saint Mary.
The Prairie Wolves built up a 20-14 lead after the first quarter of action. They made 6-9 shot attempts in the second quarter, but were outscored by four points as CSM closed the gap to 35-33 at halftime.
NWU got ahead by as many as 11 points in the third quarter, but the Flames pulled within two points late in the quarter before
Kate Schulte nailed a 3-pointer making the score 55-50 after three.
CSM got as close as three points in the 4
th quarter, but NWU maintained the lead and sealed the win going 6-6 from the free throw line in the final minutes.
Freshman
Caitlin Navratil led the Prairie Wolves with 18 points, making 8-13 from the field. Two other Nebraska Wesleyan players reached double figures on the day helping the Prairie Wolves get a season high in points. After going without a made field goal on Saturday,
Kate Schulte bounced back with 16 points on Monday.
Addie Wetzel added another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Paige Mohammed came off the bench to score 17 points to lead the Flames.
