DUBUQUE, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan moved into the top half of the Iowa Conference volleyball standings as they went on the road and picked up a 3-1 win over University of Dubuque on Friday night (Oct. 7) in Dubuque, Iowa.
NWU won the match in scores of 26-24, 25-13, 21-25, 25-21. With the victory, the Prairie Wolves move to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in IIAC action. That puts the Prairie Wolves in a three-way tie for fourth in the league standings with three conference matches remaining.
The Prairie Wolves got a huge performance from
Callie Meyer in the victory. Meyer pounded out 18 kills with just one error for a hitting percentage of .567. She was one of three NWU players that reached double figures in kills.
Kierra Harder added 11 kills with only two errors, while
Malory Dahl had 10 kills and 11 digs for a double-double.
Nebraska Wesleyan led the entire first set, until the Spartans tied it up at 23-23. Dubuque then had set point at 24-23. NWU got a kill by Harder, then a Spartan error gave the Prairie Wolves set point. They converted the victory on a solo block by
Karrie Sestak.
Set two was all Prairie Wolves as they jumped out to a 12-1 lead and cruised to the 12-point set win. NWU also jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set, but Dubuque went on a 8-3 run and overtook the lead for good.
The fourth set was tied four different times until the Prairie Wolves went up 17-16. NWU scored six straight points and closed the win on a kill by
Hannah Bellinghausen.
NWU hit .238 as a team with 58 kills.
Taylor Crandall had a double-double of 48 assists and 11 digs, with
Kennedy Hegert leading the team with 22 digs.
Nebraska Wesleyan is right back in action on Saturday as they face Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
