Decorah, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan completed the regular season of Iowa Conference dual play with three losses over the weekend. NWU fell 5-4 to Wartburg College on Saturday morning, lost 8-1 at Coe College that afternoon then lost a 7-2 decision to Luther College on Sunday.
Luther's win over the Prairie Wolves on Sunday helped them clinched the IIAC regular season championship for the Norse. NWU finished the regular season in the fall with a 1-8 overall record and 1-7 mark in the IIAC as they lost their last seven matches.
NWU nearly picked up a win on Saturday at Wartburg.
Bridget McKeegan and
Torey Kogel earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles for the lone Prairie Wolves win in doubles play. McKeegan continued her solid play with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles. Kogel also earned a win in singles at the No. 2 spot with a 6-3, 7-5 victory. The other NWU win was at No. 4 singles with
Jaime Bridges earning a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Coe College improved to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in IIAC play with the 8-1 win over the Prairie Wolves in Cedar Rapids. Nebraska Wesleyan's only win in the dual came at No. 3 singles with
Madi Hinshaw winning 6-2, 6-2 over Tori Montoya.
On Sunday, Luther was able to down the Prairie Wolves 7-2 to stay undefeated in conference play. McKeegan and Kogel got their second doubles win on the weekend with a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles over Anna Pearson and Lauren Welch. Kogel got NWU's second point with her 6-3, 6-1, win at No. 2 singles.
Nebraska Wesleyan's seven losses in conference play are the most in school history as the Prairie Wolves dropped only 10 total conference duals during their 16-year tenure of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
The Prairie Wolves finish up the fall portion of the schedule this weekend as they will participate in the IIAC Individual Tournament in Waterloo, Iowa.
