Wolves and Dutch Set For Battle at Abel Stadium Saturday

The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will return to Abel Stadium/Weary Field Saturday (Oct. 15) to host Central College in Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football action.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Dutch is set for 1 pm.

Nebraska Wesleyan is 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in IIAC action.  The Prairie Wolves are looking to bounce back from their 42-23 road loss to No. 18 University of Dubuque last Saturday (Oct.8) at Dubuque, Iowa.  Saturday's game is the Prairie Wolves only home game during the month of October.

Central brings a 4-2 overall record and 2-2 IIAC mark into Saturday's matchup.  The Dutch opened the year with a perfect 4-0 mark and cracked the Top 25 rankings before dropping their past two games to the top teams in the IIAC.  Last week, Central fell in the final minutes 33-30 to Coe College in a thrilling IIAC game in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

This will be the fifth meeting between NWU and Central in football, but the first meeting between the two teams since 1987.  It is the first time the two teams have met as conference opponents.  Central won the first four games against Nebraska Wesleyan.

NWU nearly pulled off an upset last Saturday against unbeaten Dubuque pulling within five points early in the fourth quarter.  Two late scores gave the Spartans the victory.  Just like last week, the Prairie Wolves defense will face a team that averages over 300 yards per game through the air.

The Dutch feature one of the top receivers in the nation as Sam Markham has already made 61 receptions to rank 2nd in all of NCAA III.  He was a 1st-Team All-IIAC performer one year ago.  Central leads the nation in first downs (181) and ranks 11th in total offense at 520.7 yards per game.

Saturday's game can be seen live on the NWU Athletics website with the broadcast courtesy of the NWU Sports Network.  It will also be tape delayed on Time Warner Channel 80 or 71.16 and Windstream's Kinetic Channel 80 on Saturday at 8 pm, then again on Sunday at 11 am and 7 pm.  The game can also be heard live locally on KFOR 1240 AM or 103.3 FM with veteran broadcaster Dick Janda calling the action.
