SIOUX CITY, Iowa - 15th-ranked Briar Cliff University outscored the Nebraska Wesleyan University women by 24 points in the second half as the Chargers went on to defeat the Prairie Wolves 78-40 in GPAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 23) at the Newman Flanagan Center in Sioux City.
BCU improves to 16-5 overall and 9-5 in GPAC play, while the Prairie Wolves fall to 3-14 and 2-11 in league action.
Nebraska Wesleyan trailed 35-21 at halftime, but was held scoreless the first five minutes of the 3rd quarter as Briar Cliff began to pull away.
Once again, the Prairie Wolves struggled on the offensive side of the ball as they shot just 24.6 percent from the field. NWU hit only 5-24 from 3-point land for 20.8 percent.
Freshman
Addie Wetzel continues to shine for the Prairie Wolves as she posted her third straight consecutive double-double since cracking the starting lineup. Wetzel had a career-high 17 points, making 3-5 from 3-point range. She also pulled down 13 rebounds in the contest.
Wetzel was the lone NWU player to reach double figures in scoring as the next closest was
Felicia TeKolste who came off the bench to add nine points.
Briar Cliff shot 47.7 percent from the field and had two players score in double figures. Morgan Hansen led the way with 15 points on five made 3-pointers. Kalyee Blake scored 12 points.
