Flames Use Big 2nd Half For 101-71 Victory

LINCOLN, Neb. -- College of Saint Mary outscored Nebraska Wesleyan by 26 points in the 2nd half to break open a close game as the Flames defeated the Prairie Wolves 101-71 in GPAC women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Jan. 20) at Snyder Arena.

NWU, who was playing without leading scorer Felicia TeKolste due to injury, played a very solid first half and trailed just 42-38 at the break. 

CSM then got hot from the field, shooting 61.8 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.  A 11-2 run in the 3rd quarter during a two minute stretch was the big difference in the contest.  NWU trailed 47-43 with 6:52 remaining in the 3rd quarter but the Flames went on the run to get up by 13.  They ended the period up by 14 with a score of 67-53.

The Flames had a huge 4th quarter as they scored 34 points and outscored the Prairie Wolves by 16 points in the final 10 minutes to get the 30-point margin.

NWU finished the game with a season-high nine 3-pointers as they made 9-26 from long range.  CSM was even more effective from deep as they made 11-19 from 3-point land.  The Flames finished the game shooting 55.9 percent from the floor, compared to 48.2 for NWU.

Three players scored in double figures for NWU.  Alli Kalal had a season-high 22 points as she was 6-9 from 3-point land.  Addie Wetzel recorded her second straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Courtney Cook came off the bench to score 10 points.

CSM was led by Pilar Aldrich who had 26 points and seven assists.  Leading scorer Deaundra Young had 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds to snap her streak of 15 straight double-doubles.
