LINCOLN, Neb. -- Mount Marty knocked down 16 made 3-pointers making over 50 percent in the second half as the Lancers defeated the Nebraska Wesleyan women 74-54 in GPAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
NWU (3-8, 2-6 GPAC) trailed by just two points at halftime but the hot shooting Lancers caught fire in the third quarter. Mount Marty outscored NWU 21-11 in the third quarter making five 3-pointers.
The Prairie Wolves actually got out to an early lead in the second half as a 3-point play from
Kylee Ashley put NWU ahead 37-34 with 7:15 remaining. A 3-pointer from
Alli Kalal gave Nebraska Wesleyan another lead at 40-39 with just over six minutes remaining.
From there, the Lancers ended the third quarter on a 14-1 run. Nebraska Wesleyan did not make a field goal the final 6:18 of the third quarter.Â
The scoring run was extended 19-1 as the 4th quarter began until NWU finally got a 3-pointer from
Alli Kalal with 7:56 left to end the drought. The Prairie Wolves went over eight minutes without a point and the game got out of hand.
Mount Marty (10-6, 4-4 GPAC) could not buy a basket to open the game as they did not make their first field goal until 3:42 remaining in the first quarter, going over six minutes without a made basket. NWU led 7-1 early and held a 15-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Mount Marty finished the game at 16-33 from 3-point range, with six different players hitting from long range. Alex Kneeland was 4-4 from beyond the arc and led the way with 20 points.
For Nebraska Wesleyan,
Felicia TeKolste was the only player to reach double figures. TeKolste scored 16 points with five rebounds in only 17 minutes of action as she fouled out.
As a team, NWU shot 38.6 percent from the field and made just one more field goal than they had turnovers. The Prairie Wolves were 16-26 from the free throw line.
