SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- It looked good for the Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team to pick up their first conference win of the season, but for the second time this season Dordt College rallied back in the second half to spoil the Prairie Wolves chances. This time the Defenders protected their home court with a 72-64 victory at DeWitt Gym on Saturday.
Dordt's only two conference victories this season have come over NWU as the Prairie Wolves now fall to 0-18 in GPAC play.
Nebraska Wesleyan led for nearly 30 minutes off the game with a lead of as many as eight points in the second half.
It was the final stretch of the game that was costly for the Prairie Wolves as they were unable to get any offense to close the game. A pair of
Amanda Diaz free throws with 3:31 left gave NWU a 62-57 advantage. From there, the Defenders would outscore the Prairie Wolves 17-2 to end the game as NWU managed just two free throws the rest of the way and didn't make a field goal the last 4:16 of the ballgame.
Dordt tied the game on a 3-pointer with 1:56 remaining at 64-64. NWU would go 0-4 from the field on their next four possessions while Dordt scored each time down the floor to earn the win.
NWU finished the game shooting 42.6 percent from the field, but hit just 37.9 in the second half.Â
Felicia TeKolste led all scorers with 17 points.Â
Kelly Sanchez was the other NWU player in double figures at 10 points.
Kim Kroese led Dordt with 15 points.
