Game-Tying 3-Pointer Falls Short at Doane for NWU Women

Box Score CRETE, Neb. -- Emma Neal attempted a 3-pointer from the right wing as time expired but it came up short as Doane College held on for a 68-65 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in GPAC women's basketball.

NWU, looking for their first GPAC win of the season, had the ball with 9.6 remaining and drove down the court before getting the ball to Neal. She was guarded closely and put up a contested shot that grazed the front of the rim.

It was an early scoring drought that cost the Prairie Wolves and never allowed them to recover.  NWU took an early 7-2 lead in the game.  Doane then went on a 19-0 run as they held NWU scoreless for 10:08 in the first half.

The Prairie Wolves finally ended the scoring drought and slowly chipped away at the Doane lead.  They pulled within five points to make the score 29-24 at the half.

In the second half, Doane would get up by eight points then NWU would respond.  They closed the gap to one possession late in the 2nd half.

Courtney Cook nailed a big 3-pointer from the top of the key with 20.0 seconds remaining to make the score 66-65 Doane.  At the other end, a quick NWU foul put the Tigers Brittany White to the free throw line where he hit 1-2 to make the score 67-65.

When NWU came down the court with a chance to tie the game, Cook got tied up dribbling and was forced into a travel.  Once again NWU fouled sending Hannah Dostal to the line.  Dostal went 1-2 at the stripe making it 68-65.  NWU called a timeout to setup the play, but the 3-point attempt was short.

Courtney Cook led NWU with 22 points, getting 20 of those in the 2nd half.  Felicia TeKolste scored 21 points as the two combined for 43 of 65 Prairie Wolves points.  Kylee Ashley added a double-double of 11 points, 11 rebounds.

Doane was led by Maggie Fillipi with 21 points off the bench.

NWU will close out the year on Saturday by hosting Mount Marty.
