Men Pick Up Huge Road Win at Dordt

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Nebraska Wesleyan went on the road and got a much needed conference victory as the Prairie Wolves knocked off Dordt College, 100-98, in Sioux Center, Iowa in GPAC men's basketball action.

It was the first win for NWU at Dordt in 10 years and the victory put the Prairie Wolves in a three-way tie for 6th place in the GPAC standings with two games remaining.  The win gives NWU the season sweep over the Defenders and the tiebreaker advantage as NWU and Dordt currently sit in a tie in in the league race.

Nebraska Wesleyan went over 100 points for the 10th time this season and needed every one of the points as the game came down to the wire.  The Prairie Wolves built up a 10-point lead at halftime but the Defenders made a game of it in the second half.  The two teams traded leads eight times.  The last tie of the game came at the 4:32 mark with the score 82-82.  Keithan Karn hit two big 3-pointers to put NWU up by six points and they never trailed again.

Dordt pulled within two points with just under two minutes remaining.  Free throws played a key role in teh final two minutes as Trey Bardsley knocked in 7-8 down the stretch to help NWU maintain their lead.  Bardsley made two free throws with 13 seconds left to give NWU a 100-97 lead.  Dordt came down the court and Taylor Feenstra was fouled with :06 left.  He made the first free throw but missed the second and NWU's Nick Stine got the rebound.  Stine missed both of his free throw attempts but Dordt's last second 3-point attempt at the buzzer was no good as NWU held on.

Nebraska Wesleyan made 16 3-pointers in the game making 16-33 from beyond the arc.  Bardsley and Travis Giesselmann each made five trifectas.  Bardsley led the way with 30 points, going 5-10 from long range and 9-10 at the free throw line.  He also had five rebounds, four assists and four steals.  Giesselmann finished with 21 points on 5-9 from 3-point range.  He had a team-high eight rebounds before fouling out.

Blake Ruiz scored 12 points, Keithan Karn 11 and Byron Thompson had 10 as five NWU players reached double figures.

Dordt had six players in double figures as the Defenders shot 50 percent from the field and held a +14 advantage in rebounding.  Nathan Rindels and David Den Herder each scored 16 points to lead the way.  Dordt also was 32-44 at the free throw line, outscoring NWU by 16 points at the line.

NWU will close the regular season with two games next week at Doane and at home against Mount Marty, the two bottom teams in the GPAC standings.
