SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- #1 ranked Morningside College outscored Nebraska Wesleyan by 24 points in the second half as the Mustangs ran past the Prairie Wolves 91-57 in GPAC women's basketball action on Saturday night in Sioux City.
NWU shot just 28.6 percent in the second half making only 6-21 from the field as they struggled shooting the ball in the final 20 minutes for the second straight week. The Prairie Wolves have made only nine field goals total in the second half of the past two games.
The Prairie Wolves, facing their second straight top 10 team, hung right with the #1 team in the country early on. After the first quarter, NWU trailed by only nine points at 23-14.
Nebraska Wesleyan continued to chip away in the second quarter and were within seven points late in the period after a pair of free throws from
Addie Wetzel. The free throws trailed 44-37 with 59 seconds left in the half but a Morningside made 3-pointer made the score 47-37 at halftime.
To start the second half, Morningside opened up on a 10-0 run to make the 10-point halftime lead into a 20-point lead. NWU did not score a point until the 6:18 mark when
Felicia TeKolste made a field goal. TeKolste scored eight of the team's 12 points in the 3rd quarter, but Morningside outscored the Prairie Wolves 26-12 in the period.
NWU managed only two made field goals in the 4th quarter, getting outscored 18-8.
The Prairie Wolves finished the game shooting 34.6 percent from the floor and had 22 turnovers.Â
Felicia TeKolste had a game-high 21 points to lead all scorers. She was 7-of-23 from the field and pulled down six rebounds.Â
Courtney Cook was the other NWU player in double figures with 16 points. Cook also had eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
Four players were in double figures for Morningside as they shot 47.3 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from 3-point range and just 56.0 percent at the charity stripe (14-25).Â
