Bobcats Hold Off Wolves 85-82

PERU, Neb. -- Peru State College led the entire way and held off a late Nebraska Wesleyan University rally as the Bobcats defeated the Prairie Wolves 85-82 in women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Dec. 9) in Peru, Neb.

PSC gets their third win of the year to improve to 3-7 overall, while NWU falls to 3-5 on the season in their final nonconference game of the year.

NWU trailed by 11 points heading into the 4th quarter as they never held a lead in the game.  The Bobcats got up by 15 points in the quarter before the Prairie Wolves slowly chipped away and finished with 35 points in the quarter.

Felicia TeKolste made two free throws to cut the lead down to six points with just over two minutes to play.  Peru State missed two free throws on their end of the floor allowing NWU to continue to cut down the lead.  Courtney Cook was fouled and made two foul shots to make the score 77-73 with 1:45 remaining.

The Prairie Wolves got a turnover, but had an offensive foul called on their possession to end the threat.  PSC converted a basket and forced another NWU turnover to go up by seven points. 

Nebraska Wesleyan got two 3-pointers in the final 15 seconds by Morgan Nishida and Alli Kalal but it was too late.

NWU outscored Peru State by eight points in the 4th quarter as they put up an amazing 35 points in the final 10 minutes.  The Prairie Wolves also outscored the Bobcats in the 2nd quarter, but Peru held a +15 advantage in the first and third quarters.

The Prairie Wolves shot 54.5 percent as a team, making 30-55 from the field.  They were 7-12 from 3-poitn range and 15-23 at the free throw line.

TeKolste led the way with a game-high 26 points, making 9-13 from the floor.  She also had six rebounds and two steals before fouling out.  Making her first start of the year, Addie Wetzel scored 18 points with seven rebounds.  Wetzel was 8-11 from the floor. 

Peru State had four players in double figures led by Rashaun Casey who came off the bench for 23 points.  The Bobcats had three players foul out in the game, but were able to hold on in the end.

NWU returns to the grind of GPAC play on Saturday as they face 4th-ranked Briar Cliff University.
