LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan took the lead after three minutes played in the first quarter and they never trailed again as the Prairie Wolves dominated Midland University 69-59 in GPAC women's basketball action on Tuesday night (Nov. 24) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.
The Prairie Wolves pick up their second conference victory of the season to equal the total they had over the past three seasons. NWU improves to 3-2 overall, while handing Midland their initial GPAC loss of the year as they drop to 4-4, 2-1.
Felicia TeKolste scored 12 first quarter points to give NWU a 19-15 lead after the first quarter. NWU held Midland to 3-14 shooting from the field in the second quarter as they outscored the Warriors 14-6 to build up a 33-21 lead at the half.
The Prairie Wolves extended their lead in the third quarter as they outscored Midland 20-15 to grab a 53-36 lead headed to the fourth quarter.
Midland looked to make a final run in the fourth quarter as they cut the lead down to just eight points with 3:04 remaining. On the Prairie Wolves next possession, TeKolste got an offensive putback to go back up by 10 points and the threat was over.
TeKolste finished the game with a team-high 23 points and five assists. She was 3-6 from 3-point range and 9-22 from the floor.
Two other NWU players reached double figures in scoring.Â
Courtney Cook had a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds and
Alli Kalal score 12 points on four 3-pointers.Â
Addie Wetzel came off the bench to pull down 10 rebounds.
Nebraska Wesleyan shot 44.4 percent from the floor and went 8-21 from 3-point range. They were a perfect 5-5 at the free throw line.
Midland finished the game at just 38.9 percent for the game from the floor. Megan Kucks led the way with 20 points.
