OMAHA, Neb. - The Nebraska Wesleyan University women's basketball team gave 15th-ranked College of Saint Mary a rude welcome to the Great Plains Athletic Conference as the Prairie Wolves upset the Flames 84-61 on Wednesday night (Nov. 18) in Omaha.
It was the first GPAC women's basketball game for CSM as they joined the league this season.Â
For Nebraska Wesleyan, the victory snaps a 21-game GPAC losing streak that dates back to the 2013-14 season. The Prairie Wolves also record their first win over a ranked team under Coach
Britni Fett and improve to 2-1 on the season.
Not only did the Prairie Wolves defeat College of Saint Mary, they were dominating in the victory. NWU led 39-23 at the half and were up by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter. Nebraska Wesleyan led 23-18 after the first quarter, then outscored CSM 16-5 in the second quarter.
NWU shot 49.1 percent as a team and took advantage at the free throw line. The Prairie Wolves were 21-25 at the charity stripe, good for 84 percent to outscore CSM by nine points at the line.
Four different Prairie Wolves reached double figures in scoring in the upset win.Â
Felicia TeKolste led the way with 18 points, hitting 8-10 at the free throw line. TeKolste had a team-high seven assist and eight rebounds in her complete overall game.
Courtney Cook scored 15 points with
Kylee Ashley going perfect on the night for 11 points. Ashley was 3-3 from the field, 1-1 from 3-point range and 4-4 at the free throw line.Â
Alli Kalal came off the bench to score 10 points, making 2-4 from 3-point land.
Justice Ross led the Flames with 16 points.
