Sheboygen, Wis. -- Carthage College defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University 55-45 in the championship game of the Lakeland College Tournament on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 14) in Sheboygen, Wisconsin.
NWU shot just 29.8 percent from the field but still were within two possessions in the final two minutes of the game.Â
Kylee Ashley converted one of two free throws with 1:25 left to make the score 51-46. The Prairie Wolves got the offensive rebound after the missed free throw, but they were unable to to score on two shots.
NWU also got a turnover on the other end of the court with a steal by
Courtney Cook. That turnover also was not turned into points as the Prairie Wolves had a turnover on their end of the court. Carthage then hit free throws to seal the victory.
Felicia TeKolste had a huge day for the Prairie Wolves, scoring over half of the teams points. She was a perfect 4-4 from 3-point range and 10-25 from the floor to score 25 points. TeKolste added eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. She was the lone NWU player to reach double figures in scoring.
NWU opens GPAC play on Wednesday with a trip to College of Saint Mary.
