LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan continues to finish the 2015 season on a strong note as they won their third consecutive volleyball match with a 3-0 victory over Mount Marty College on Saturday (Oct. 31) in Snyder Arena. The Prairie Wolves defeated the Lancers in scores of 25-17, 25-23, 26-24.
NWU has lost the first 12 conference of the year before winning the last three to improve to 9-18 overall and 3-12 in GPAC play.
The Prairie Wolves rolled to the set one victory as they scored four straight points to end the set. NWU pounded out 13 kills in the first set, with just five attack errors.
Mount Marty led 15-13 in the second set before NWU took a timeout to end their run. After the timeout, the Prairie Wolves scored six straight points to go up 19-15 and they didn't look back. The Lancers pulled withing one at 22-21 but two errors from Mount Marty made the score 24-21.
Karlie Bracht sealed the win with a kill for the 25-23 victory.
Set three was the closest of the three as each team held the lead at different points throughout. Mount Marty pulled ahead 20-18 forcing a timeout by the Prairie Wolves. From there, NWU reeled off three straight points to take a 21-20 lead. MMC took a 23-22 lead, but a kill by
Malory Dahl tied it back up.
Sid Mell then recorded a service ace to set up match point. Mount Marty extended the set with a kill, but Carlie Meyer added a kill to make the score 25-24. Libero
Kennedy Hegert sealed the victory with a kill.
NWU finished with 42 kills and a .202 hitting percentage.
Malory Dahl led the way with 13 kills, while
Callie Meyer added eight.
Kelsey Bahe dished out 39 assists and Hegert led the way with 21 digs.
Nebraska Wesleyan will finish the 2015 season on Wednesday night as they host Concordia University.
