MITCHELL, S.D. -- The Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team got their first conference victory of the season as they traveled to Mitchell, S.D., and defeated Dakota Wesleyan University 3-1 in GPAC action on Saturday afternoon. NWU beat the Tigers in scores of 25-18, 25-21, 19-25, 26-24 at Fosness Arena.
With the victory, the Prairie Wolves improve to 9-16 overall and 1-12 in GPAC play, while Dakota Wesleyan falls to 11-16, 2-11.
NWU got out to an early lead in set one and continued to build on. The Prairie Wolves led 15-9 and didn't allow DWU to get within three points the rest of the way.
Set two was close early, then NWU went on a big run. With the score at 10-9, the Prairie Wolves outscored the Tigers 9-1 and never looked back.
Dakota Wesleyan easily won the third set as they got out to an early 10-2 lead and cruised to the 25-19 win.
The deciding fourth set was close the whole way through. NWU had their first set point at 24-23, but a service error gave DWU another chance as they tied the score at 24-24. The Prairie Wolves then sealed with win with back-to-back kills for a 26-24 victory.
Malory Dahl had a big match to lead the Prairie Wolves attack. She pounded out 15 kills with only two errors on the day.
Kierra Harder and
Sid Mell each had nine kills.
Kelsey Bahe dished out 38 assists and
Kennedy Hegert had a team-high 26 digs.
