SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- No. 1 ranked Morningside College remained undefeated on the season as the top-ranked Mustangs defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 79-59 in GPAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Allee Gym in Sioux City.
NWU shot just 28.0 percent from the floor in the first half to allow Morningside to build up a 34-19 lead at the break. The Prairie Wolves never went away and battled the entire game as they scored 40 points in the second half and were outscored by just five.
However, Morningside was just too strong for the Prairie Wolves as they remain winless in GPAC play for the 2014-15 season. Morningside scored 32 points off of turnovers and outscored NWU 50-22 in the paint as the Prairie Wolves played without starting center
Bridget Bucher.
Jessica Tietz scored 20 points to lead Morningside College who had three players in double figures. Ashlynn Muhl recorded a double-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds with Lexi Ackerman scoring 11 points with eight assists.
NWU had big days for a pair of Prairie Wolves.
Courtney Cook and
Felicia TeKolste scored 42 of the 59 Prairie Wolves points. Cook had a game-high 25 points with nine rebounds. She was 9-15 from the floor, 3-4 beyond the arc and 4-4 at the free throw line. TeKolste had 17 points with eight assists and six rebounds.
NWU shot just 35.7 percent as a team and committed 27 turnovers. It won't get any easier for the Prairie Wolves as they face No. 3 Concordia on Wednesday.
