MITCHELL, S.D. -- Third-ranked Dakota Wesleyan University snapped Nebraska Wesleyan's five-game winning streak as they shot past the Prairie Wolves 97-63 in GPAC men's basketball action at the World's Only Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
Dakota Wesleyan, ranked 3rd in NAIA II, proved why they are one of the top teams in the country. The Tigers nailed nine 3-pointers in the first half to lead 53-34 at the break. They finished the game with 14 made 3-pointers, making 14-28 from beyond the arc.
NWU hung close early and a 3-pointer by
Keithan Karn made the score 19-18 Dakota Wesleyan with 11:08 to play in the first half. The Tigers then scored 15 unanswered points to go up by double digits and they cruised the rest of the way.
Nebraska Wesleyan, held 30 points under their season scoring average, shot just 36.6 percent from the field and 7-26 from 3-point range as they struggled on offense in the loss.
Meanwhile, the No. 3 Tigers shot 62.7 percent from the field and had five players in double figures. Joey Mitchell led the way with 23 points on 10-15 shooting. Kris Menning had 21 points making 5-8 from 3-point range while pulling down 11 rebounds for a double-double.
The lone player in double figures for the Prairie Wolves was
Trey Bardsley with 15 points.Â
NWU will not have a mid-week game then returns to action on January 24 as they host Northwestern at Snyder Arena.
