Bardsley Pours in 48 Points in Prairie Wolves 111-99 Win

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Trey Bardsley put on a show for Nebraska Wesleyan scoring 48 points to lead the Prairie Wolves past Northwestern College, 111-99, in GPAC men's basketball action Saturday afternoon (Jan. 24) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.

Bardsley's total of 48 points is the second most points ever scored by a NWU basketball player (Rudy Stoehr holds school record with 62 points set in 1960) as he he hit 7-13 from 3-point range and went 13-14 at the free throw line.

With the win, NWU moved into a tie for 6th place in the GPAC standings with Northwestern at 5-7 in league play.  It also marks the first victory for the Prairie Wolves over Northwestern in Lincoln since January 5, 2000.

The two teams put on an offensive show in the first half as they were trading baskets back and forth up and down the court.  The lead changed 11 times and the game was tied nine times in the first 20 minutes.  Northwestern hit 62.5 percent of their shots in the first half, while NWU made 56.4 including 9-23 from 3-point range.  Bardsley had 24 first half points to give NWU a 58-56 advantage.

To start the second half, NWU went on a quick 11-2 run in the first four minutes to get their first double digit lead of the game.  They maintained the lead and extended it to as many as 15 points with 13:29 to play on a layup from Bardsley.

Northwestern did not go away and outscored NWU 11-3 to cut the lead to six points at 86-80 with 8:33 remaining.  Nearly two minutes went by without any team scoring, before Bardsley took a perfect back door pass from Byron Thompson to go up by nine on the old fashion 3-point play.  Travis Giesselmann had a 3-point play of his own the next time down the court to put NWU up double digits and they would keep that margin the rest of the way.

Bardsley's career-high performance in scoring was not his only output on the night as he added five steals and four assists.  It was far from a one-man show for the Prairie Wolves as they had four players in double figures.  Travis Giesselman poured in 21 points and had a career-high eight assists and five steals.  Keithan Karn nailed four 3-pointers to score 14 points off the bench, while Nick Stine added 12 points.

As a team, NWU went over 100 points for the eighth time this season.  They shot 51.4 percent from the floor and hit 15-37 from 3-point range.  NWU was also 24-29 at the free throw line.

Northwestern actually outshot the Prairie Wolves and held a +16 advantage in rebounding.  Jordan Baker had a double-double of 22 points, 11 rebounds to pace the Red Raiders.

NWU will host top ten ranked Midland University on Wednesday night at Snyder Arena.
