Short Handed Defenders Rally for 73-63 Win

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan's chance at their first conference victory of the season looked good early but Dordt College rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat the Prairie Wolves 73-63 in GPAC women's basketball action.

Dordt, which had just eight players suited up due to injuries, outscored the Prairie Wolves by 21 points in the second half to earn their first GPAC win of the year.  Dordt improved to 9-10 overall and 1-9 in GPAC while NWU falls to 2-12 and 0-9 in GPAC.

Dordt jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the game, then NWU went on a 19-0 run to go ahead 19-4 with 11:50 remaining.  The Prairie Wolves maintained their double digit lead in the first half as they shot 42.2 percent in the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, the Defenders began play on a 11-2 run in the first three minutes of the half to cut the lead down to two points.  NWU held on to their lead until the 7:40 mark of the second half when the Defenders made a layup to go ahead 53-52.  The two teams traded leads for the next four minutes to make the score 62-62 with 2:58 remaining.

From there, Dordt scored the next nine points to go ahead 71-62 and that sealed the victory for the Defenders.  Dordt shot 45.8 percent in the second half and 40.0 for the game and held a +8 advantage on the glass.  Abby Chapman led the way with 20 points, while Kim Kroeze had 18.  Mycah Hulst had a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.

NWU was only 9-32 from the field in the second half and ended the game at 35.4 percent.  They were 5-23 from 3-point range.  Courtney Cook led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds.  Bridget Bucher had 12 points and six rebounds.
