Tekolste's 30 Points Not Enough in Loss To Doane

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Felicia TeKolste scored a game-high 30 points and Nebraska Wesleyan had a chance to cut the lead to a single possession in the final minute, but in the end rival Doane College held on for a 71-65 victory in GPAC women's basketball action.

NWU completes the first half of the GPAC season without a victory to fall to 2-13 overall and 0-10 in GPAC play while Doane improves to 10-10, 5-5 GPAC.

A big difference in the contest came at the free throw line where Doane outscored the Prairie Wolves by 13 points. The Tigers finished 21-27 at the charity stripe, compared to 8-20 for Nebraska Wesleyan.

Doane went up by 10 points with just under 1:00 to play and appeared to have the game wrapped up.  Courtney Cook scored a basket to cut the lead to eight points, then Felicia TeKolste made a quick steal and layup in the backcourt to cut the lead to 70-64.  On the other end, Doane's shot was blocked by Bridget Bucher and NWU picked up the loose ball to head the other way.  Stacy Beller was fouled on a layup attempt and promptly hit 1-2 at the free throw line to make the score 70-65 with 0:35 left.

After a quick fall at the 0:30 mark, Doane missed the front end of a 1-and-1 to give NWU another opportunity.  TeKolste attempted a layup in a crowd in the paint that was no good and Doane grabbed the rebound to seal the win.

TeKolste finished her big night with 30 points on 12-23 from the field and 2-5 from 3-point range.  She was only 4-10 at the free throw line.  Two other NWU players were in double figures with Courtney Cook scoring 18 and Bridget Bucher 10.

Doane had four players in double figures despite shooting 34.8 percent from the field.  Hannah Dostal was one of two Doane players to record double-doubles.  Dostal had 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Maggie Fillipi came off the bench for 10 points and 11 rebounds.  The Tigers held a 54-36 advantage on the glass.
