Box Score 4 ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Nebraska Wesleyan got its 2014 season off to a terrific start as the Prairie Wolves went a perfect 4-0 at the Labor Day Volleyball Classic played in St. Louis, Mo., hosted by Washington University.
Playing against NCAA Division III competition, the Prairie Wolves knocked off all four opponents, including a big win over the host school, nationally-ranked Washington.
NWU opened play on Saturday and won in straight sets over Greenville, 25-15, 25-19, 25-12.
Malory Dahl led the way with 10 kills and a .417 hitting percentage, with
Katelyn Walsh adding nine kills.
Alyssa Stanek hit .583 with eight kills and three blocks as the Prairie Wolves hit .330 as a team.
In a big match for national tournament selection purposes, the Prairie Wolves then took on 11th-ranked Washington University later on Saturday night. NWU had just two hitting errors the entire night, while Washington committed 22 hitting errors as a team. NWU took down the nationally-ranked team 25-18, 25-17, 25-20. Walsh led a balanced NWU attack with eight kills.
On Sunday morning, the Prairie Wolves had their most competitive match of the tournament. NWU dropped set one against Hanover 22-25, then came back to take the next two 25-12, 25-16. Hanover answered by winning set four 25-22 sending the match to a deciding set five. In the fifth set, NWU came away with the 15-10 victory.
Alexa Rosenau had a rare triple double with 12 kills, 19 assist and 10 digs.
Bridget Bucher added 11 kills with Walsh and Stanek each getting nine kills.
To close out the classic, Nebraska Wesleyan took on Buena Vista University. The Prairie Wolves needed four sets, but came away with a 3-1 win over the Beavers in scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-13. Rosenau had another triple double of 11 kills, 18 assists and 10 digs. Walsh had a team-high 13 kills with Stanek adding 10 kills.
Kelsey Bahe handed out 22 assists and
Mackenzie Ashton recorded 23 digs.
Alexa Rosenau was named to the All-Tournament Team to represent Nebraska Wesleyan.
