Box Score 2 Morningside College hit two home runs in the bottom of the 7th, including a walk off HR by Kelsey Tobin to lift the Mustangs to a 5-3 win over Nebraska Wesleyan in game two of a GPAC softball doubleheader on Wednesday (Apr. 9) in Sioux City, Iowa. Morningside won the first game 6-1.
The Mustangs remain undefeated in GPAC play, while NWU falls to 1-7 in league play and 10-14 overall.
NWU looked poised to pull the upset in the second game as they held a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th. The Mustangs got a lead off single then hit their first of two 2-run home runs to the game. NWU walked the next batter to bring up Tobin who homered for the first time in her career.
NWU took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning as
Betsy Reimer walked, stole second base and scored on an RBI single by
Chaley Hamilton. Morningside tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd. In the 6th inning,
Hunter Bailey hit a 2-run single to put the Prairie Wolves ahead 3-1.
NWU finished with six total hits as six different NWU players hit singles.
Claire Poppe took the loss, going 6+ innings allowing four hits and three earned runs.
Megan Cottier pitched to the final batter in the game to give up the walk off home run.
In the opening game NWU was held to just one hit by Morningside pitcher Jordyn Johnson in the 6-1 loss. Johnson struck out 12 and walked just two while allowing one run.
The lone run for NWU came in the 4th inning as
Madi Francis hit an RBI single to drive in Reimer for the only hit of the game.
