Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Nebraska Wesleyan won a 2-1 pitcher's dual in game one of a GPAC softball doubleheader against Concordia University on Wednesday night (Apr. 16) at University Place Park in Lincoln.  The Bulldogs scored four runs in three runs in the top of the 1st inning of game two and held on for a 4-3 victory as the teams split.

Chaley Hamilton held the Bulldogs scoreless in the first six innings and NWU used timely hitting to build up a 2-0 lead.  Kayla Randel singled, stole second  base and scored on an RBI double down the left line by Betsy Reimer in the 3rd inning.  NWU got their second run in the 4th inning as Hunter Bailey grounded out to drive in Becky Bomberger.

Concordia threatened in the 7th as they led off with a single and walk.  A sacrifice put runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out.  Julia Tyree grounded out to third base to score one run, but the tying run was left at third base as Bomberger got a line drive right at her on the hot corner.

Hamilton finished the game allowing just five hits and one run with a strikeout and four walks.  NWU had only five hits, led by Reimer who was 2-3 with an RBI.

In the second game, the Bulldogs roughed up Hamilton in the 1st inning.  They scored three runs on four hits with a walk to go ahead big early.  Concordia got another run in the 4th inning to extend the lead to 4-0.

NWU was held without a hit the first three innings and had just one through four.  The offense got going in the 4th as Kassie Knauss and Brittni Eitmann both singled.  Julia Tyree came in relief of starter Amanda Beeson and forced a double play allowing one run to score.

The Prairie Wolves mounted a big threat in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Reimer led off with a single, followed by an infield hit from Rachel Kubik.  Hamilton lined a pitch down the left field line to bring in Reimer and cut the lead in half.  On the next at-bat, Becky Bomberger hit into a fielder's choice, but on the throw to attempt a double play the ball went to the fence allowing Kubik to come around and score.  Beeson then returned to the pitching mound and retired the next two batters leaving the tying run at second base.

Beeson got the win going 6.0 total innings allowing just three hits, one run and recorded six strikeouts.

Reimer was the top offensive player for NWU in game two as well, going 2-3 for the second straight game.
