Prairie Wolves Sweep Lancers in Softball

Nebraska Wesleyan picked up a much needed doubleheader sweep on Saturday as the Prairie Wolves took two games from Mount Marty College in a GPAC softball matchup at University Place Park. NWU won game one 11-0, then took the second game 7-2.

The Prairie Wolves (13-15, 4-8 GPAC) complete a weekend that saw them win three of four games to try and get back into the top eight in the league standings.

NWU exploded for four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning on two hits and two Lancer errors.  Kayla Randel hit an RBI double in the second inning to put the Prairie Wolves up by five runs.

In the bottom of the 4th, NWU scored six runs to put the game out of reach.  Becky Bomberger had a 2-run double for one big hit while the Prairie Wolves took advantage of two Lancer errors and added four hits in the big inning.

Megan Cottier got the complete game 3-hit shutout on the mound for the Prairie Wolves.  Cottier struck out one and walked just two.

Kayla Randel, Becky Bomberger and Kassie Knauss all had two hits in the game.  Randel was 2-2 with a double and two RBI and Bomberger was 2-3 with a double and three RBI.

In the second game, Nebraska Wesleyan got ahead 2-0 in the first inning.  Randel doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a double by Betsy Reimer.  Reimer then would score on a single by Chaley Hamilton.

Mount Marty scored a run in the top of the 5th then tied the game in the top of the 6th inning in a score of 2-2.

NWU quickly erased the tie as they scored five runs in the bottom of the inning.  Rachel Kubik led of with a double and scored on a double by Bomberger.  Hamilton then singled on the next at bat to drive in another run.  Madi Francis hit a 2-run double and Randel added another RBI on a single to cap the inning.

Randel once again led the Prairie Wolves at the plate going 3-4 with a double and RBI.  Hamilton was 2-3 with two RBI and also got the win on the mound.  She pitched the final two innings allowing just one hit for the victory.
