Softball Opens Season With Sweep of Stephens

Nebraska Wesleyan got the 2014 season off to a good start as the Prairie Wolves went on the road and swept a doubleheader over Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.  NWU won both games by a score of 5-1.

The Prairie Wolves never trailed in either game as they controlled both games from the start.  In the first game of the day, Rachel Kubik had an RBI single in the first inning to put the Prairie Wolves up 1-0.  NWU added two more runs in the fourth inning as they took advantage of two Stephens errors.  A passed ball allowed NWU to score in the fifth, and another run crossed the plate on an error in the seventh inning.

Kayla Randel was 2-4 with a triple, Betsy Reimer was 2-3 with a double and Kubik went 2-4 to lead the NWU offense.  Megan Cottier got the win allowing one earned run and five hits in the complete game victory.

In game two, the Prairie Wolves struck first in the top of the third inning as Randel scored on a stolen base.    Stephens tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.  NWU scored two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the win.  Madi Francis hit a 2-run single in the 6th with Chaley Hamilton adding a 2-run double in the 7th inning.

Hamilton was 2-3 at the plate and also got the win on the mound allowing just four hits in the complete game shutout.
