Softball Continues Hot Streak With Sweep at University of Ozarks

Nebraska Wesleyan softball completed their Spring Break trip with a doubleheader sweep over the University of the Ozarks on Wednesday (Mar. 26) in Clarksville, Ark.  NWU won game one 7-5, then shutout Ozarks 4-0 in game two.

The Prairie Wolves have now won seven of their past nine games to improve to 9-7 overall.

Betsy Reimer continued her hot streak at the plate as she went a perfect 4-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and three stolen bases in the first game.  Reimer is now batting .478 on the season.

Kayla Randel has also been one of the team's top offensive players during the winning streak.  Randel led of game one with a double, stole third base and scored on a single by Reimer.  Reimer then stole a base and would come around to score on a single by Claire Poppe.

Ozarks (2-22) responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st, and took over the lead at 4-3 with two more runs in the 2nd inning.  NWU tied the game in the top of the 4th as Randel singled, stole a base and scored on a single by Reimer as the two batters provided a big spark at the top of the order. 

Madi Francis got a pinch hit RBI single in the 5th inning to put NWU ahead.  The Prairie Wolves would score one run in each of the final four innings of the game to earn the 7-5 win.

Randel and Reimer combined for seven hits and five stolen bases as the top two batters in the Prairie Wolves batting order.  Brittni Eitzmann also added two hits for NWU.  Claire Poppe pitched the final four innings to get her first victory of the season.

Nebraska Wesleyan pitchers Chaley Hamilton and Megan Cottier pitched a combined shutout in the second game as they allowed Ozarks to have just two hits.

NWU jumped ahead 2-0 in the 1st inning as the Prairie Wolves loaded the bases for Claire Poppe who walked to bring in the first run.  Hamilton then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the second run.  Hamilton hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning to put the Prairie Wolves ahead 3-0.  The final run came in the 4th inning as Danielle Adams led off the inning with a double and scored on a ground out by Randel.

NWU finished with eight hits led by Poppe who was 2-3 with an RBI.
