Indianola, Iowa -- For the second time this season, the Nebraska Wesleyan University women's basketball team went on the road and dropped a game in overtime as they fell 85-82 at Wartburg College on Saturday (Nov. 29).
Anna Schell dribbled down the court and fired up the potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer but it deflected off the rim giving the Knights the victory.
NWU trailed by two points in the final minute of regulation until Felica TeKolste hit a layup with 42 seconds remaining to tie the game at 70-70. Neither team was able to get a shot off on their next two possessions with both teams turning the ball over.
With the game tied at 72-72 in overtime, Wartburg went on a 9-3 run to build up a six point lead and the Prairie Wolves never could get closer than two points.Â
Bridget Bucher made a layup with 24 seconds remaining to pull NWU within three points, but Katie Sommer went to the line and made one free throw to make the score 84-80. On the next time down the court, TeKolste converted two free throws to pull NWU within two points. Sommer once again went 1-2 at the charity stripe giving NWU a final opportunity but Schell's 3-pointer was no good.
