LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska Wesleyan got in the win column for the first time of the 2014-15 season as they opened the 26th Annual Snyder Classic with a 105-70 victory over Crown College on Friday night (Nov. 28) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.
The Prairie Wolves (1-3) used their full court pressure defense to force Crown (0-6) into 42 turnovers for the game, scoring 48 points off those turnovers. NWU led by 13 points at halftime (50-37) but opened the second half on a 12-0 run in the first 2:30 of the second half to get the lead over 20 points and it remained over 20 the rest of the way.
NWU led by 13 at halftime, despite shooting 26.0% from the field in the first 20 minutes.  The Prairie Wolves built up a 16-point first half lead (22-6) as they held their opponent to just six points the first 10 minutes of the game.
Three straight 3-point baskets (2 by
Nick Stine, 1 by
Trey Bardsley) opened the second half for the Prairie Wolves and sparked the team the rest of the way.
A total of 62 fouls were called in the game with NWU going 34-44 at the free throw line, while Crown shot 18-39.  Crown was led by James Brown who had a game-high 30 points. Brown was 10-16 from the floor and 10-13 at the free throw line. As a team, Crown was just 2-20 from 3-point range and 46.2 percent from the free throw line.
Nebraska Wesleyan surpassed the century mark for the second time this season and had four players in double figures. Despite an off shooting night,
Trey Bardsley led the way with 19 points.Â
Nick Stine got his first career start and scored 14 points, while
Jake Miller came off the bench to score 14.Â
Travis Giesselmann chipped in 11 points.
Nebraska Wesleyan shot only 33.0 percent from the field and 22.9 percent from 3-point range hitting 11-48 from beyond the arc. 15 different players got in the scoring column for the Prairie Wolves.
NWU will face Simpson College on Saturday in the second day of the Classic. Simpson lost to Concordia Moorhead, 84-56, in the first game of the night.
