NWU Volleyball Earns NCAA III Tournament Bid

Lincoln, Neb. – The NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Committee announced its field of 64 teams for the 2014 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships Monday (Nov. 10), and the Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team was selected to the tournament.

Nebraska Wesleyan, ranked #13 in the AVCA Poll, will be part of an eight-team regional that will be played at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) in St. Paul, Minn.  The tournament will take place this Thursday through Saturday (Nov. 13-15).  NWU will face University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 12:30 pm on Thursday.

NWU earned an at-large bid from Pool "c" after finishing the 2014 season with an undefeated 12-0 record in NCAA III play.  This is the 15th appearance for the Prairie Wolves in the NCAA Championships, and the first since 2010.  Overall, NWU is 6-14 in NCAA III Tournament matches.  The last appearance in 2010 was also at the St. Thomas regional in St. Paul, Minn.

The Prairie Wolves ended the season with a 22-6 overall record.  They will be the No. 1 seed at the St. Paul, Minnesota regional.

University of Northwestern (MN) has a 23-10 overall record.  They received an automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament by winning the Upper Midwest Conference.  This will be the third all-time meeting NWU and Northwestern in volleyball with NWU winning both matchups, most recently in 2009.

Other matches on the opening day of the St. Thomas regional will be Cornell College vs. Augsburg, Wisconsin-Stevens Point vs. Saint Benedict and Coe vs. St. Thomas.  NWU will face the winner of the Augsburg-Cornell matchup.  Five of the eight teams in the regional were ranked in the most recent AVCA DIII Top 25 poll.

The winner of the regional will travel to Newport News, Virginia, for the NCAA III quarterfinals, semifinals and finals that will be played Nov. 21-23 at Christopher Newport University.
