Wolves Rally Back Past Rival Tigers

LINCOLN, Neb. -- After dropping the first two sets of the match, the 14th-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves came roaring back and won the next three sets to defeat rival Doane College, 3-2, in GPAC volleyball action on Wednesday night (Oct. 29) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln, Neb.

NWU defeated the Tigers in scores of 22-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-14, 15-7 to improve to 21-6 overall and 9-6 in GPAC and split the season series with Doane.

Doane looked like they would roll to another three set sweep over the Prairie Wolves just as they did in the first meeting between the two teams.  However, NWU would not go down easy on their home court as they responded with a prideful effort.

The Prairie Wolves jumped out to an early 14-6 lead in the third set and cruised the rest of the way.  NWU hit .286 as a squad in the third set with 14 kills, while Doane had just eight.

It was more of the same in the fourth set with the Prairie Wolves pouncing on the Tigers quick with a 6-1 advantage.  Doane would not get closer than four points the rest of the way as NWU won 25-14 for the second consecutive set.

Doane had no chance in the fifth set as NWU came out with a service ace and scored the first three points then never looked back.  NWU led 10-3 before the Tigers knew what hit them and Alysaa Stanek put an exclamation point on the match with two solo blocks to earn the win.

Katelyn Walsh led the Prairie Wolves with 15 kills and a .343 hitting percentage.  Stanek had 11 kills and six total blocks, while Malory Dahl added 11 kills with three blocks.  Kelsey Bahe and Alexa Rosenau both had double-doubles as Bahe had a 24-assist, 11 dig performance and Rosenau was at 23 assists and 10 digs.

Doane was led by Shelbi Mlynczak who had a match-high 26 kills.

Nebraska Wesleyan will close out the regular season on Saturday with a match at Morningside College.
