Win #100 for Coach Schuknecht in 74-66 Triumph Over Chargers

Box Score Nebraska Wesleyan picked up a key Great Plains Athletic Conference victory with a 74-66 win over Briar Cliff University giving NWU head coach Cam Schuknecht his 100th career victory on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 21) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.

The win moves NWU to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in GPAC play headed to the Christmas break.  Briar Cliff falls to 9-6, 4-3 in GPAC.

NWU snaps their 7-game losing streak to the Chargers as they held Briar Cliff 16 points under their season scoring average.  The Prairie Wolves shot 53.3 percent from the field in the win and outscored BCU by 13 points at the free throw line.

Nebraska Wesleyan used a 12-0 run midway through the second half to built up a 13 point lead at the 5:29 mark.  NWU got up by 18 points in the first half but a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Zach Otting made the score 39-24 at the break.

In the second half the Prairie Wolves maintained their lead not allowing the Chargers to get closer than eight points until the final minute of the game. 

Trevor Johnson continued his outstanding play as he notched his first double-double of the season.  Johnson was a perfect 8-8 from the field to score 24 points while pulling down 11 rebounds.  He also had a team-high five assists on the night.

Two other NWU players reached double figures with Eric Jackson scoring 15 and Tim Schweitzer adding 10 points.  Jackson was 3-5 from beyond the arc and Schweitzer grabbed six rebounds.

Briar Cliff was led by Bryan Forbes with 25 points on 5-11 shooting from 3-point range.  Leading scorer Zach Otting was limited to just 14 points on 5-12 shooting and attempting 1-2 at the free throw line, well below his average of eight made free throws per game.

Nebraska Wesleyan will now be off until Dec. 31 when they have their final non-conference game at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
