A frantic start to the match with three goals in the first 15 minutes put Morningside College up early and they would go on to defeat Nebraska Wesleyan 3-1 in GPAC men's soccer on Saturday (Oct. 26) at Abel Stadium in Lincoln.
The loss spoiled the Prairie Wolves senior day as six NWU men played their final home game.
Just over three minutes into the match, Morningside scored the first goal as Logan Schaefers connected on a goal to put the Mustangs up 1-0. Less than 10 minutes later Morningside scored again as Saxx Adams got the first of his two goals in the match.
Nebraska Wesleyan got on the board with an answer in the 15th minute as
Alex Thorson scored on a penalty kick. It was Thorson's fifth goal of the year as he is the team leader in goals.
The score would remain 2-1 at intermission. In the second half, Saxx Adams scored again on an assist by Forrest Maxon in the 69th minute to give Morningside a two goal cushion and that would end up being the final score.
Morningside attempted 18 total shots, compared to just six for the Prairie Wolves. NWU falls to 4-11-1, 2-6 in GPAC.
