LINCOLN, Neb. — Six different Prairie Wolves recorded a kill as NWU women's volleyball swept York (25-17, 25-9, 25-7) at Snyder Arena on Wednesday night.
The Prairie Wolves' .307 hitting percentage marked the highest clip this season for the squad. NWU also led in kills (35-13), digs (41-21) and blocks (8-3) with
Mikyna Stoppkotte recording a new career high with six blocks.
Molly Ramirez led the Prairie Wolves with ten kills.
Grayson Piening led NWU with 11 digs. Setter
Elecea Saathoff posted 32 assists.
Set 1
The Panthers earned the opening point, but the Prairie Wolves responded with a kill and an ace from Ramirez to go on a 3-0 run. The teams traded points until NWU extended its lead to 23-16, forcing a York timeout. After the break, the Prairie Wolves maintained their momentum with Ramirez capping the set with a kill, 25-17.
Set 2
The Prairie Wolves opened the second set with a kill from Ramirez and jumped out to a 4-0 lead. After the Panthers responded with a kill from Madilyn De La Garza, NWU added another 12-2 run to force a York timeout at 16-3. The Prairie Wolves continued their momentum out of the break, going on a 6-1 run to extend its lead to 22-4. Two kills from Ramirez closed the set, 25-9.
Set 3
The Cougars opened the third set with an ace from Saathoff before the teams traded points to reach 5-3, NWU. The Prairie Wolves then took control with a 4-0 run, including two Panther attack errors, to take an 9-3 lead. NWU continued to maintain its advantage, with two kills from
Macy Plucker and two more kills from
Ella Foote helping the Prairie Wolves take a 16-6 lead.
York responded with a point, but the Prairie Wolves answered with a 9-0 run to close it out. Saathoff had four aces in the stretch to close it out, completeing the sweep.
