INDIANOLA, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball showed resilience in spurts Wednesday night but fell to third-place Simpson College 87-51 in American Rivers Conference action at Cowles Fieldhouse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Prairie Wolves started strong, trailing just 15-9 after one quarter as Simpson struggled to find its rhythm early. Nebraska Wesleyan refused to fold in the second quarter, putting together an impressive stretch highlighted by 3-pointers from
Anastyn Pettlon and
Brynn Sebek, a jumper from
Carney Black, a layup by
Rhyanne Mackling and a free throw from
Alison Davis.
Simpson (11-9, 7-4 A-R-C) responded with a 31-point third quarter to pull away, but the Prairie Wolves regrouped in the fourth period, outscoring the Storm, 19-15. Pettlon led the Prairie Wolves with nine points in the quarter.
Maddie Demke added five.
Pettlon paced Nebraska Wesleyan's balanced scoring attack with 19 points, connecting on 8-of-16 from the field including a 3-for-5 performance from beyond the arc. The junior guard also added two assists in 31 minutes of action. Black added 11 points while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds in nearly 35 minutes.
Maddie Demke contributed nine points and facilitated the offense with three assists, while
Peyton Tritz came up with two steals on the defensive end. Sebek chipped in six points off the bench.

Nebraska Wesleyan returns home Saturday when Wartburg College visits Snyder Arena for a 2:00 p.m. contest. The matchup will feature Senior Day festivities as the Prairie Wolves honor their three senior student-athletes. Saturday's game will also celebrate Nebraska Wesleyan's new brand refresh featuring updated institutional and athletic marks.
