Carney Black has earned the honor of being named Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week in the American Rivers Conference, conference officials announced Monday.
Carney Black was a difference-maker on both ends of the court, totaling 42 points, 20 rebounds, and four steals in games against Buena Vista and Dubuque. The 5-foot-10 senior from Tilden, Nebraska shot an impressive 72.2 percent from the field vs. Buena Vista, along with two three-pointers.
In Wednesday's matchup with Buena Vista, Black scored 30 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and recorded three steals in the loss to the Beavers. She followed that performance with 12 points, 9 rebounds and a steal in the women's basketball season-ending victory over Dubuque on Saturday.
The honor marks the first American Rivers Conference Player of the Week award of Black's career and also the program's first since 2020 and is the first Nebraska Wesleyan player since at least 2010 to have a 30 point double-double.
Closing their season off with a win, the Prairie Wolves will begin working in the offseason to continue building off of their 2025-2026 season. Although
Carney Black will be graduating after this season, the women's team will return with a group of familiar faces next year.
