Men's Basketball Looks to Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play with Home Games Against Simpson and Dubuque

Lincoln, NE - Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball looks to remain unbeaten in conference play with home games against Simpson and Dubuque this week.

GAME TIME, LOCATION, LIVE STREAM & LIVE STATS
Nebraska Wesleyan will take on Simpson at 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, January 7th. On Saturday, NWU will face Dubuque at 4:00 p.m. Both games will be played at Snyder Arena, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Nebraska Wesleyan will live stream the game and carry live stats.

ABOUT NEBRASKA WESLEYAN
Nebraska Wesleyan earned a gutsy, last second win over Wartburg in their last game to move to 9-4 overall, and 4-0 in American Rivers Conference play. The Prairie Wolves average 72.7 points per game and shoot 43.1% from the floor. The Black and Gold maintain a 35.7% three point percentage and shoot 64.6% from the free throw line. NWU has recorded 151 offensive rebounds and dished out 211 assists. Defensively, the Black and Gold allow 68.7 points per game, with opponents shooting 42.3%. The team has brought down 301 defensive rebounds, swiped 138 steals and blocked 36 shots. Senior Seth Newton is an all around star for the Prairie Wolves, leading the team in made three pointers (28), field goal percentage (47.9), total rebounds (97), and steals (26). Fellow senior Nick Howard is in the midst of a breakout season, averaging a career best 14.0 points per game, while also posting 11 blocked shots.

HEAD COACH DALE WELLMAN
Dale Wellman is in his 12th season as the head coach of Nebraska Wesleyan Men's Basketball, having led the Prairie Wolves to numerous accomplishments, including a national championship in 2018. Under his guidance, the program has seen five A-R-C Regular Season titles and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. Wellman boasts an all-time record of 224-79 . 

CLUTCH PERFORMANCE
Nebraska Wesleyan claimed an unlikely, 68-67, last second victory over Wartburg in their last game. Down 67-65, Christian Winn was fouled and made the first of two free throw attempts to cut the deficit to one. However, the second free throw was missed and for a second the game looked lost, but Nick Howard grabbed a clutch offensive rebound and was fouled almost instantly. Howard would go on to sink both free throw attempts and a defensive stop secured NWU's improbable triumph. The win marked Nebraska Wesleyan's fifth win at Wartburg since joining the A-R-C in 2016. 

SCOUTING SIMPSON
Simpson enters this week 5-7, but has won two consecutive games, and sits at 2-1 in A-R-C play. Through 12 games, Simpson has averaged 75.2 points per game and shoots 43.7% from the floor. Defensively, the Storm allow 78.8 points per game. Simpson is coached by Kyle Jones, in his second season.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST SIMPSON
Wednesday marks the 61st meeting between Nebraska Wesleyan and Simpson. The Prairie Wolves lead the all-time series 44-16.

SCOUTING DUBUQUE
Dubuque enters this week 8-4 and 1-2 in the A-R-C. The Spartans will play Wartburg on Wednesday, January 7th at 7:30 p.m. Dubuque scores 77 points per game and shoots 43.8% from the floor. Defensively, the Spartans allow 69.9 points per game. Dubuque is coached by Robbie Sieverding, in his 19th season.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST DUBUQUE
Saturday marks the 24th meeting between Nebraska Wesleyan and Dubuque. The Prairie Wolves lead the all-time series 16-7.
