Men's Basketball Opens Three Game Road Trip at Central and Coe

Lincoln, NE - Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball will begin a key three game road trip at Central and Coe this week. 

GAME TIME, LOCATION, LIVE STREAM & LIVE STATS
Nebraska Wesleyan will open the road trip at Central College on Wednesday, January 28th, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium, in Pella, Iowa. Central will live stream the game and provide live stats. On Saturday, NWU will take on Coe College at 4:00 p.m., at Kohawk Arena, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Coe will live stream the game and carry live stats.

ABOUT NEBRASKA WESLEYAN
Nebraska Wesleyan has won three straight games since a four point loss against Dubuque on January 10th. The winning streak has vaulted NWU to the top of the conference standings and improved the team's overall record to 13-5. The Black and Gold run a dynamic offense that scores 72.1 points per game. While multiple players chip in offensively, Nick Howard and Christian Winn have been two of the team's top scorers, averaging 14 and 12.8 points per contest. Winn is an elite ball distributor, tallying 55 assists, which ranks him fifth in the A-R-C. The Prairie Wolves are a tough rebounding team, bringing down 207 offensive boards and converting them into second chance points. Seth Newton highlights NWU's rebounding effort, averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. Newton also makes it rain from beyond the arc, with 37 made threes, and a .416 three point percentage. Defensively, the Prairie Wolves allow 67.3 points per game. Newton also makes his presence felt on defense leading the team in steals with 37. Nick Howard is another two-way player posting a team best 16 blocked shots. As a team, NWU has recorded 177 steals and blocked 55 shots.

HEAD COACH DALE WELLMAN
Dale Wellman is in his 12th season as the head coach of Nebraska Wesleyan Men's Basketball, having led the Prairie Wolves to numerous accomplishments, including a national championship in 2018. Under his guidance, the program has seen five A-R-C Regular Season titles and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. Wellman boasts an all-time record of 227-81. 

TIGHTENING UP
After allowing 70 or more points against both Dubuque and Loras, Nebraska Wesleyan has tightened up defensively in their last two games, holding Buena Vista and Luther to 52 and 57 points. The Prairie Wolves held the Beavers to a shooting percentage of 35.2, while Luther managed a 40% clip from the floor. NWU combined for 16 steals and 4 blocks while forcing 28 turnovers against the Beavers and Norse.

SCOUTING CENTRAL
Central enters Wednesday night on a three game winning streak and sits at 10-8 overall and 3-6 in the American Rivers Conference. The Dutch average 75.7 points per game, and allow 77.1 points per game. Central is led by Conor Riordan, in his first season.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST CENTRAL
Wednesday marks the 36th meeting between Nebraska Wesleyan and Central. The Prairie Wolves lead the all-time series 27-8, which includes a 91-67 win earlier this season.

SCOUTING COE
Coe enters this week 12-6 overall and 4-5 in the American Rivers Conference. Prior to facing NWU, Coe will host Buena Vista on Wednesday, January 28th. The Kohawks average 74.8 points per game and allow 70.2 points per game. Coe is led by John Payan, in his second season.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST COE
Saturday marks the 24th meeting between Nebraska Wesleyan and Coe. The Prairie Wolves lead the all-time series 14-9, which includes a 67-63 win earlier this season.
