Lincoln, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer earned a dominant 5-2 victory over the University of Northwestern, Saturday afternoon in what marked Robert Lynch's first victory as head coach. The win improves Nebraska Wesleyan to 1-2, while UNW drops to 1-1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
After a three goal second half a week ago, Nebraska Wesleyan's offense continued to hum early in the match, with two goals scored in the first 10 minutes. The first of which came off the foot of
Lexi Jantzen at 2:52, while
Emily Jasa followed up with a goal at 9:33. Sandwiched between the two goals was a third minute goal by Northwestern. The Eagles would go on to tie the game at two in the 27th minute. However, Nebraska Wesleyan retook the momentum before halftime as
Averie Hike scored halfway through the 39th minute.
Second Half
After halftime, the Prairie Wolves struck quickly, doubling their lead to two as
Emma Parker squeezed one past Samantha Hansen of UNW. The Black and Gold continued their offensive assault, barraging the Eagles with shots in the 52nd, 53rd, and 57th minutes, before
Lexi Jantzen tallied her second goal of the game at 58:26 to put NWU up 5-2. From there the Prairie Wolf defense locked down the Eagles, allowing just three shots over the remaining 31 minutes, with
Catthi Pham making one save as Nebraska Wesleyan earned its first win of the season.
