Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 defeat at home against Hastings College. Despite the loss, several Prairie Wolves battled through close matches against a tough Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) opponent at the LSF Sports Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Parker Brown had a standout day, securing two wins for the Prairie Wolves. In doubles action, the team of Kylie Engelsman and Brown earned a 6-3 victory. Brown also prevailed in her singles match, overcoming Carter in a hard-fought contest 7-5, 6-2.
Other matches were tightly contested, with Caitlin Hudson/ Crystal Craft losing a close doubles match 6-7, (2-7) and Gracey Smith/ Jayna Erickson falling 5-7 in their doubles match. In singles play, Smith battled in a three-set match, ultimately losing 0-6, 6-4, 7-10, and Sylvia Kamradt also fought hard in a three-set match, losing 7-6(4), 3-6, 4-10.
Head Coach Lee Steinbrook noted the team's resilience against a strong Hastings squad. "We had a lot of close matches today against a tough GPAC opponent. Hopefully, this experience will bear fruit later in the season and make us better as we continue to develop."
With the loss, the Prairie Wolves move to 1-3 on the season, while Hastings improves to 1-0. Hastings has now won the last two meetings, but Nebraska Wesleyan still holds a commanding 26-3 lead in the all-time series.
