CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan's postseason run took an early hit as the Prairie Wolves fell 6-2 to third-seeded Luther in the first round of the American Rivers Conference Tournament on Thursday morning at Mt. Mercy University.
How It Happened
Luther struck first, plating three runs in the second inning. A pair of RBI singles gave the Norse an early lead they wouldn't relinquish. They added three more in the third, capitalizing on an NWU miscue to extend the advantage to 6-0.
The Prairie Wolves chipped away late. Nick Roghair drove in the first run with an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth, scoring Brady Bell, who singled earlier in the inning. In the sixth, Easton Johnson scored an unearned run after reaching on catcher's interference, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
NWU threatened again in the seventh, getting two runners on with one out, but a strikeout and a flyout ended the rally. The Prairie Wolves managed just six hits, with Bell leading the way, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Theo Hughes took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) over seven innings, striking out five. Tyler Spreitzer provided a scoreless inning of relief, fanning one.
