CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Fueled by a six run sixth inning, Nebraska Wesleyan extended its season with a 10-2 victory over Simpson College, Thursday afternoon. The win marks Nebraska Wesleyan's third against the Storm this season, and is the first American Rivers Conference tournament victory since joining the conference in 2016.
How It Happened
After a scoreless first,
Jake Gerardis got the Prairie Wolves rolling with a solo home run to left field. Jake
Shedarowich would double the lead on a wild pitch in the third inning. However, Simpson responded by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at two.
The offenses settled down over the ensuing innings with both teams failing to get a hit. However, Nebraska Wesleyan broke the tie on a two out RBI single Jake
Shedarowich in the sixth, which put the Prairie Wolves up 4-2. Shedarowich would go on to score on a
Nick Roghair triple which made the score 6-2.
Aaron Chazin followed suit with an RBI single, before being driven in on a single by
Duncan Ortega.
Nebraska Wesleyan continued to play well on defense holding the Storm to just two hits over the next three innings. Leading 8-2, the Black and Gold plated two insurance runs in the ninth before holding Simpson scoreless and securing a 10-2 victory.
Owen Duckworth pitched a gem for Nebraska Wesleyan, striking out six batters and allowing just three hits over the course of seven innings.
