Baseball Struggles to Find its Rhythm at Grinnell

Lincoln, NE (April 5, 2025) - Nebraska Wesleyan baseball struggled to find its footing during a pair of losses to Grinnell, Wednesday afternoon. The Prairie Wolves lost game one 12-0, before falling in game two 14-6. The losses drop NWU to 15-10 on the season. 

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED

Grinnell jumped on Nebraska Wesleyan early, scoring one run in both the first and second innings. The Pioneers then doubled their lead with a pair of RBIs in the third. After a scoreless fourth, Grinnell added a fifth run to their total in the fifth inning. Trailing 5-0, NWU allowed Grinnell to blow the game open in the sixth as the Pioneers added seven runs to their total courtesy of a grand slam and three run home run. Nebraska Wesleyan struggled to find their bats in the loss as the team recorded two hits, compared to Grinnell's 12.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED

Grinnell's offense kept its foot on the pedal as the series shifted into game two, as the Pioneers plated seven runs in the first inning. After holding NWU scoreless in the second, Grinnell added an insurance run to make the score 8-0. In the fourth, NWU scored its first run of the day on a Jake Gerardis solo home run to left center field. NWU would cut the Pioneer lead to five with a pair of RBIs in the fifth. However, the Pioneers responded by scoring four in the bottom half of the inning to grow a 14-3 lead as the game entered the sixth. Nebraska Wesleyan would go on to score three more runs in the seventh but never seriously threatened Grinnell during a 14-6 loss.
