Track and Field Set to Visit Doane Twice as Season Reaches Midway Mark

Lincoln, NE (April 7th, 2025) - After seeing a select number of athletes compete at the USD Early Bird and Concordia Invite last week, Nebraska Wesleyan is set to compete its full roster at two meets this week.

ABOUT NEBRASKA WESLEYAN
This week will see Nebraska Wesleyan compete for the fifth and sixth time during the 2025 outdoor season, but it marks just the second and third meets where a majority of the roster will compete. Nebraska Wesleyan last competed at the USD Early Bird and Concordia Invite last week. At USD, eight Prairie Wolves competed in the 5,000 meter run. Conner Ross ran to a 10th place finish, while running a 54 second personal best time of 15:09.81. On the women's side, Avary Byers took 28th overall, finishing in a time of 9:00.62. On Saturday at Concordia, NWU continued to display confidence in the field, as Kaelyn Means took first in the women's discuss, while Colin Wojtkiewicz earned first in the men's hammer throw. NWU also saw nine other athletes place in the top 10 in discuss, hammer throw, high jump, pole vault, and long jump. 

DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD AND CROSS COUNTRY DERRICK MCKENZIE PROFILE
Derrick McKenzie is in his second season as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Nebraska Wesleyan. In his first year, Nebraska Wesleyan had 14 NCAA qualifying performances, five NCAA All-Americans, and two National Runner Ups. The Prairie Wolves also won six individual conference championships and broke numerous school records. Prior to being named Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, McKenzie served as an assistant coach at NWU, where he coached sprints and relays.
