Softball Gets Back in Win Column with 6-2 Victory Over College of St. Mary

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan softball kept rolling Tuesday, picking up a 6-2 win over College of St. Mary at University Field. The Prairie Wolves (18-5) used a balanced attack, scoring in four of six innings, while pitcher Elise Warneke locked down her 12th win of the season with a complete-game effort.

How It Happened
Warneke was sharp, scattering nine hits and striking out six over seven innings. The graduate student righty worked out of jams when needed, stranding eight CSM runners. The Flames (3-21) plated single runs in the second and sixth but couldn't string together a big inning against her.

Paige Davison set the tone immediately, crushing the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the first over the left-field fence. CSM tied it in the second on an RBI double, but Jenna Kimberling's single in the bottom half restored the lead. Warneke stranded one in the third with a line-drive double play, and NWU padded the lead in the fourth when Taylor Korecky scored on Kimberling's second RBI hit. The fifth inning sealed it. Lyndsey Roth ripped a two-run double, and Val Gerlach followed with a run-scoring single. CSM scratched across a run in the sixth, but Warneke closed the door with a strikeout to end the game.

Davison finished 3-for-3 with two runs, while Kimberling and Roth both drove in two. Kamdyn Sprunk swiped two bags on the basepaths. Defensively, NWU played clean with no errors and turned a key double play in the third to squash a CSM threat.
