DECORAH, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan closed its regular season with a 7-0 loss at #56 Luther on Thursday afternoon. The Norse swept doubles and singles to extend their conference win streak to 25 matches dating back to 2022.
How It Happened
Luther set the tone early, taking all three doubles matches. Jacob Balfany and Sam Rademacher fought at the No. 1 spot but fell 6-2 to Luther's top pair of Luke Westholder and Eli Young. The Norse secured the other two doubles matches by scores of 6-2 and 6-1, with Tyler Blair and Gavin Nichols battling at No. 2 before dropping their match.
In singles, Luther's depth proved too much. Balfany, NWU's usual No. 1, faced Westholder, one of the region's top players, and fell 6-1, 6-0. Nichols showed resilience at No. 2, pushing Joao Benvenutti in the second set before losing 6-0, 6-1. Ian Armbrust and Blair each won games in their opening sets but ultimately dropped straight-set decisions. Glenn McChristian battled at No. 6 before losing 6-2, 6-1.
